Gospel of Mary · 6 of 6
The Conflict
.Andrew, however, answered and said to the brethren: “Say whatever you will say about what she has said. As for me, I do not believe the Savior said this, because these teachings appear to be divergent ideas.”
.Peter answered, discussing the same matters.
.He asked them concerning the Savior: “He spoke with a woman without our knowing it, instead of publicly, did he?
.Are we supposed to bow down and listen to her?
.Did he prefer her over us?”
.Then Mary wept.
.She said to Peter: “My brother Peter, what are you thinking? Do you think that I concocted this in my mind, or that I am lying about the Savior?”
.Levi answered and said to Peter: “Peter, you have always been hot-tempered, now that I see you getting upset with the woman like adversaries (do).
.If, however, the Savior made her worthy, who are you then to rebuff her?
.The Savior certainly knows her quite well, which is why he loved her more than us.
.“Let us instead be ashamed and clothe ourselves with the Perfect Man, and obtain him for ourselves according to how he commanded us, and let us preach the gospel, not laying down any other rule or law beyond what the Savior spoke.”
.[When] [he had said th]is, even they began to go out [to pr]oclaim and to preach the gospel according to Mary.
