Chapter LXXXVII. The Advent of the Seven Archangels

1.And again I saw how they began to gore each other and to devour each other, and the earth began to cry aloud.

2.And I raised mine eyes again to heaven, and I saw in the vision, and behold there came forth from heaven beings who were like white men: and four went forth from that place and three with them.

3.And those three that had last come forth grasped me by my hand and took me up, away from the generations of the earth, and raised me up to a lofty place, and showed me a tower raised high above the earth, and all the hills were lower.

4.And one said unto me: ‘Remain here till thou seest everything that befalls those elephants, camels, and asses, and the stars and the oxen, and all of them.’

Asked of Guide

Why do three angels lift Enoch to see the tower and the chaos below?

Enoch is taken up by three of the seven white beings to remove him from the “generations of the earth” and give him a vantage point above the violence — he is positioned to witness cosmic judgment rather than be swallowed by it. The chapter stages a prophetic relocation: the angels’ act places him at a “lofty place” so he can observe what will happen to “those elephants, camels, and asses,” a catalogue that ties everyday creatures to the fate of the world below.

The scene frames revelation as disclosure from above; the three angels perform the intermediary role that angels have in biblical visions, offering access to sacred knowledge. This matches other apocalyptic scenes, like Ezekiel’s lifted vision or Revelation’s angelic guides, where ascent precedes the unveiling of cosmic order and judgment.
